Case Study: Modernizing Network Infrastructure for Brown Dog Eatery

———

Client: Brown Dog Eatery, Carrollton, GA
Owners: Greg and Mallory Evans
Service Provider: Jack Reclamation Co.

The Challenge

When new owners Greg and Mallory took over Brown Dog, they aimed to maintain the restaurant’s status as a top eatery in Carrollton. However, they faced significant hurdles with their existing IT environment. The network infrastructure was antiquated, messy, and failing to meet the operational needs of a modern business.

Unlike typical restaurants that focus solely on guest Wi-Fi, Greg required a robust, enterprise-grade network. Specific pain points included:

  • Security Risks: A lack of enterprise-level network security.
  • Operational Inefficiency: The staff could not access digital systems in the freezer, forcing them to take inventory on paper and manually transfer it later.
  • Management Access: The owners needed reliable connectivity from public spaces just outside the restaurant to manage the business remotely.

The Approach

Jack Reclamation Co. utilized a product-centric approach, moving beyond a simple “fix-it” mentality to solve the root cause of the issues.

The process involved three key steps:

  1. Problem Identification: Defining the core issues (antiquated network, lack of coverage).
  2. Persona Analysis: Identifying the primary users (Staff and Greg) and mapping their specific workflows.
  3. Strategic Alignment: Designing a digital space that aligned directly with those user needs rather than just installing standard equipment.

The Solution

After analyzing the personas and their workflows, Jack Reclamation Co. architected and designed a custom solution utilizing TP-Link’s Business/Enterprise managed solution – Omada.

This system provided:

  • Enterprise-Level Security: Protecting sensitive business data without the excessive cost of high-end corporate gear.
  • Comprehensive Coverage: Ensuring reliable Wi-Fi access for staff Point of Sale (POS) systems and management devices.
  • Cost-Effectiveness: Delivering high-end functionality and flexibility “without breaking the bank.”

The Results

The implementation transformed the restaurant’s operations, delivering a clean, useful, and secure infrastructure.

  • Operational Efficiency: Staff can now perform digital inventory directly in the freezer, eliminating the need for paper records and manual data entry.
  • Management Mobility: Staff can successfully work from public spaces immediately outside the restaurant with full access to necessary systems.
  • User Satisfaction: The solution met the specific needs of the users without over-engineering the system.

Client Feedback:
The immediate impact was best summarized by a staff member who stated, “I can do inventory now.” The owners are extremely happy with the cleaner, more secure environment that supports their high standards of service.
